ANNOUNCEMENT OF COMPETITION
INTERNATIONAL STUDY AND RESEARCH AWARD
IN MEMORY OF THE ENTREPRENEUR GIOVANNI BAREZZI
|
Promoted and organised by Cartiera del Maglio spa, the GIOVANNI BAREZZI AWARD will be granted to the author(s) of a particulary meritorious research paper or study in one of the following fields:
‘Cigarette design, paper, production and packaging’. |

1. PURPOSE OF THE AWARD

| The Giovanni Barezzi Award has two main purposes: |
| • |
increasing students' interest in all the themes connected with the production of cigarette; |
| • |
promoting the Giovanni Barezzi Documentation Centre at the Cartiera del Maglio – Borgonuovo di Pontecchio Marconi – Italy, whose aim is to gather, file and share with interested parties and enthusiasts alike the teaching and scientific material concerning the world of cigarette. |

2. ELIGIBLE CANDIDATURES

The Giovanni Barezzi Award is open to school/ university students and professionals, R&D department, regardless of the country of provenance. |
3. SUBJECT OF THE PAPER
| .. |
The subjects treated in the paper must be able to promote – in all ways – the world of cigarette by developing the themes ‘Cigarette design, paper, production and packaging’. The Award is exclusively for subjects that are ‘Not Tobacco Material’. |
4. THE AWARD
| .. |
The Award consists of the sum of 10,500.00 Euros (ten thousand five hundred Euros). In case of group works the award will be split up between all the authors. |
5. DELIVERY OF THE PAPER
| .. |
| All candidates are required to deliver to the Organizational Segretariat, no later than 12 noon on August 1st, 2005, the following documents: |
| • |
the application form available from the www.barezziaward.com website |
| • |
a précis of the paper [in English or Italian and in TXT, RTF or Word format] |
| • |
a bound paper copy of the paper and another copy on an electronic medium [floppy disk or CD in TXT, RTF or Word format] |

Submitted materials cannot be returned and will be sent to the Giovanni Barezzi Documentation Centre. No receipts will be issued. |

6. PRIZE AWARDING

The prize will be awarded by a Scientific Committee composed of academics and acknowledged experts and appointed by the Organizers and the Sponsors. The committee's judgment is final.
The Organizational Secretariat will contact the winner by e–mail. The prize–winning paper will be outlined during a public Award Ceremony.

7. OBLIGATIONS OF THE CANDIDATES

| By simply delivering the above–mentioned documents the candidates are bound to meet the following obligations: |
| a. |
the prize–winning candidate must be willing to take part (upon request of the Organizers) in the Award Ceremony. The Organizers will inform beforehand the winner about the place and the date of the ceremony. Travel and accommodation expenses will be charged to the Organizational Secretariat.
During the ceremony the prize–winning candidate will present a précis of the object, method and conclusions of his/her work;

| b. |
the candidates must allow the Organizers directly and/or indirectly to use their name and works' contents for editorial, scientific and statistical initiatives, or for whatever purpose the Organizers may deem convenient. Using the works' contents will not result in any form of financial or non–financial obligation on the part of the Organizers and/or their assignees towards the candidates; |

by simply delivering the required documents the candidates are bound to accept all the rules, obligations and procedures listed in this announcement. |

8. NON-AWARDING OF THE PRIZE

The Scientific Committee reserves the right not to award the prize if, in their opinion, the required qualitative level has not been reached. |
9. PLEASE TAKE NOTICE

The Organizers decline all responsibility should the essays be lost, stolen, damaged or plagiarized. Any legal action is excluded. |
